Why is it because Harold Camping believes the world is ended tomorrow, all Christians do?

I've seen this site ask a few times "Why do Christians believe the world is going to end on May 21st?" and other questions like it. Even my close Friends who are Atheists asked me the same thing "why do you guys believe the world is ending on Saturday"

Yet no Christian I know or Church I know believes the world is ending only Harold Camping does. My baptist church was laughing at the guy on Wednesday. Why is it that people assume all Christian's believe the same thing because one does?|||Yep - we were laughing at it at my Bible study this week. Half of the people there hadn't even heard of it before. None of them even for an instant considered taking it even remotely seriously.|||Because it is easier to group Harold Camping and his followers as "christians." Then people use "christians" to say who believe in the rapture. While one describes the other, it does not work the same way, and it is a common misconception that when one group does or thinks one way, they generalize the views of a group of people.|||"Camping calculates date of the crucifixion of Christ as Friday April 1, AD 33." Does anyone with common sense even take this serious!?...Seriously!?...April fools Day!?...COME ON SHEEPLE!|||Whether or not we are Christians, we ought not to be laughing at anyone's beliefs. I think the problem is that morons have a higher profile, and people prefer to think ill of us regular Christians.|||Because:

1.) They know b- all about Christianity, and

2.) They will seize upon any excuse to make fun of it anyhow.|||The world will end on September 13, 2016|||Because they use YA as their reference.|||More than half of the Christians don't believe it at all.|||I am a true Christian, I don't believe Judgment Day is tomorrow.|||Camping should be considered a cult. No man knows the day or hour.......|||To their credit most of them don't|||People have been claiming the end is near for centuries just to get people in the pews.

According to the Bible, the second coming was supposed to happen around 2000 years ago, but that never happened so it was a false prediction. Numerous passages in the Bible portray Jesus clearly stating that the Second Coming would occur within the lifetime of his disciples.

"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."

— Matthew 24:34

"This generation" refers to a span of 30-40 years, thus placing the date of the second coming before the deaths of the disciples. C.S. Lewis called this "the most embarrassing verse in the Bible" in The World’s Last Night and Other Essays.

Three more verses explicitly state that some of the people listening to Jesus as he preached would not die before he returned.

"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."

— Matthew 16:28

"And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power."

— Mark 9:1

"But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God."

— Luke 9:27

Jesus also told people that "the time is short and they should not get married, not mourn, not be happy, not buy things, and not live "in the world". This again indicates that Jesus himself believed his return to be extremely imminent.

"What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.""

— 1 Corinthians 7:29-31

"But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."

— 1 Peter 4:7

The term "Second Coming" never appears in the New Testament. Furthermore, in none of the Epistles which were written prior to the Gospels is Jesus ever referred to as "coming again" or "coming back" or "returning." The only terms used are "coming" or "will come." If the Jesus of the Gospels is legendary fiction, then this is exactly what would be expected if early Christians were looking forward to the First Coming of Jesus, much as practitioners of Judaism are still looking forward to the First Coming of the Messiah, not the Second Coming.

Christian beliefs about the Second Coming

Obviously Jesus did not return within the lifetime of his disciples. Many Christians today still believe that the Second Coming is imminent, and talk about the impending rapture. As we can see elsewhere in the Bible, this is nothing new. Later in the story, the disciples begin complaining to Peter. As a result, Peter invents an ad hoc answer.

"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.... But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

— 2 Peter 3:3-8

Thus an ad hoc case is made that when Jesus said that his return was "imminent" and "at hand" he really meant "thousands of years from now".|||iIm a Christian and I certainly do NOT believe that an ''invisible'' rapture occurred on 5-21-11 as stated by Harold Camping nor do I believe that any man knows exactly when the end of the world will occur. I do believe with all the signs around us we are living in the 'end times' but does that mean the world will end oct.21st....? Of course not! You must remember that even Jesus\Yashua %26amp; his disciples spoke as if the 'end' was @ their door %26amp; spoke as if it would even happen in their time. Only the Father knows that day%26amp; hour!!! and yes this H.Camping is giving Christians a bad name but he's not the 1st %26amp; certainly wont be the last. Even Hitler was a 'self-proclaimed christian' but that doesnt mean that he was! just because some nut-job stamps Christian on his ressimee that should not reflect upon true believers!! Camping 's dates about the end are as off today as they were in 94'!!! and thats a fact!
